Here’s one of the latest images of the fires burning in Southern California, and was captured at 11:25 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on October 23, 2007 by the MODIS on the Terra satellite. Fires are marked in red. (Click on image for large 500m resolution)

These satellite images for October 21st. shows how quickly the fires ignited.The time difference between these images is just three hours and fifteen minutes!

This GOES-11 satellite image shows the smoke plum from the Butler II fire near Big Bear. Notice how narrow the plum is and how it stretches northeast up to Utah!
