We are visiting the area from the Pacific Northwet . After finding this site before we left I was expecting drought conditions down here. We have never been here before and have been amazed at the green lawns and the amount of water being used. Water conservation is huge in the northwest. We have water use restrictions during the summer months. Our area will average from 20 to 70 inches of rain a year, yet we still have restrictions. Looking at the water you have to use, it makes me think we are doing a LOUSY job of collecting and storing water.
So, my question is, how do you do it? What is your water source. With so little rainfall in this area, there must be another source.
Just curious….

First I must say, this is only my opinion, but California is behind in its water conservation efforts. Most of the Southwest is currently in a severe drought and the Sierra snow pack is only about 27% of normal. Now here in the Coachella Valley we don't rely on the Sierra's but we do on a natural underground aquifer. Which according to some reports, we are using more from the aquifer than is being replaced. I have heard that most of the golf courses here are now required to use reclaim water to help this. I think there should be more of a benefits to home owners and home builders to use water-efficient plants and and zero-water landscaping. More conservation is definely needed since experts are predicting a century of drought here in the Southwest(see article here).
I hope you enjoy your visit. Please send some of that rain our way when you return home.

Thanks John. That is interesting and I am sure a bit of a concern for the local residents. I can only imagine how you feel when you drive by all of the luxury resorts and see the sprinklers going with a river of water going down the gutter. A good conservation effort would be like opening a new resource. Hopefully the 100 year drought prediction will be wrong. Believe me…. If we could send some of our rain your way, we would in a heartbeat . We have already had more rain this month than all of June last year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already talking about coming back next year. It is a beautiful area.
Thanks,
Greg
