There are a few ways to get the current conditions from
DesertWeather displayed on your desktop. The first is Desertweather
Live which can be accessed from the main menu on the front page. If
your select “separate window” that will open a separate window without
all the menus and title bar, you can then resize that window to your
likings! DesertWeather Live will timeout after 15 minutes to conserve
bandwidth. You just need to hit the continue button for another 15
minutes.

Another option are widgets…

If you are using Window XP try Yahoo Widgets
And then the widget to use for Yahoo Widgets is at this site:
http://www.wetlaufer.com/wx/wd_widget.php
***To enable the viewing of DesertWeather.com’s data you must open
preferences an add “http://www.desertweather.com” in the “location”
field.

If you have Windows Vista you can download a widget for the Vista sidebar here:
http://weather.cobbnz.com/weather/VistaGadget.aspx
***To view DesertWeather.com’s data with the Vista version open the widget’s configuration screen and type in “Palm Springs” in the “Location” field. You should now see DesertWeather above the conditions on the widget.

The Windows Vista widget is more elaborate than the Yahoo one allowing you to click on it and give you a detail “flyout”.

Also Weather Exchange is an excellent little desktop application that is capable of displaying DesertWeather data.

All of these pull data directly from DesertWeather.com and the data
displayed is updated every 15 seconds (although you can override the
update time within the widgets)

I hope you find this useful.

EDIT: I posted this to the blog and added some images (Blog Entry)
