Hurricane Dean’s Future (part 2)

Posted by John in Topic: General

Here is an interesting tracking map from Weather Underground of the GFDL Model of Hurricane Dean’s potential path and strength as it crosses Mexico’s main land and then travels up the Gulf of California. Note that according to this model, as of today’s run, it strengthens back into a category 1 hurricane in the Gulf of California before entering into the southwestern US. We’ll have to keep an eye on this model the next few days to see if that remains possible.

I do hope we get some much needed rain from this, but if it indeed followed this model’s proposed path I don’t think it would pick up any steam in the Gulf of California, Past storm history tells us that. Also there wouldn’t be any tropical characteristics by the time it reached us, no wind, just overcast, humid days with maybe some sprinkles. That’s my opinion.

There are a few models that are predicting that Dean will just continue west into the Pacific. Lets revisit these models come Friday morning, I’ll keep you posted.
