Weather related discussions for the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas

Precursor before John?

Posted by John in Topic: General

Typically, this time of year we see thunderstorms blossom over the mountains surrounding the Coachella Valley and don’t see much rain, if any, on the desert floor. Not today! Around 3pm we had a rather large cell develop over the Santa Rosa Mountain range to the south. It expanded north and dump as much as 1.06″ (private station reading) in south Palm Desert, which got the brunt of it. According to radar images, it seemed to only affect the cities of Catherdral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, and east to La Quinta. It dissipated before it effected the north side of the valley. High winds were seen in Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage. Many trees were toppled!

Here at Desertweather.com, we only saw a trace. This is most likely only the start of what might be a wet, active, beginning of the week with remnants of Hurricane John.
