Were approaching the mights of summer and as July rolls by, and August is just around the corner, we can expect higher humidity levels here in the valley. The valley floor saw Dew Point values on Sunday averaging in the 50’s! This is caused by the “Monsoonal flow”.
With the Southwest Monsoon (which typically affects Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and a small portion of Texas) we sometimes get its affects and those higher humidity/dew point levels can produce thunderstorms around the Coachella Valley! Those Cumulus clouds, that mainly form over the mountains, can produce significant amounts of rainfall and lightning and sometimes do affect the valley floor. Over the next several days we are expecting our first batch of moisture up from the south and possibly a thunderstorm in our mountains.
WeatherBus.com, which is located just east of Phoenix in Arizona, closely monitors the Monsoon season and he has an excellent page describing the basics of the Monsoon Season. If you are interested in the hows and whys of the Monsoon please visit his page at the link below…
