Storm Lost its Punch

Posted by John in Topic: General

We didn’t get the rain that was forecasted with this storm that came through early in the day on Friday. With the cold air and trough in place we still have a chance for some sprinkles over the next 36 hours and possibly a stray thunderstorm. Palm Springs recorded .07 of an inch and Thermal recorded just a trace. Thousand Palms .01

forecast

National Weather Service discussion:

THE FIRST PART OF THIS COLD WINTER STORM HAS PAST...BUT WE ARE NOT
OUT OF THE WOODS YET. MORE RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW IS ON THE WAY AS A
SERIES OF STRONG SHORTWAVES RACE DOWN COAST AND ROUND THE BASE OF
THE TROUGH. FIRST WAVE MOVES ACROSS TONIGHT AND WILL CONTINUE TO
BRING SCATTERED SHOWERS AND MOUNTAIN SNOWS. THE SNOW LEVEL WAS 5000
FEET THIS EVENING AND WILL LOWER TO 4000 FEET BY MORNING.

THE SECOND...MUCH STRONGER...SHORTWAVE IS CAUSE FOR CONCERN SATURDAY
NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY. UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENT FLOW AHEAD OF A STRONG
35 UNIT VORTICITY MAX COULD BE THE FOCUS FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS
WITH HEAVY DOWNPOURS. FUNNEL CLOUDS AND WATERSPOUTS ARE QUITE
 POSSIBLE WITH THIS COLD...UNSTABLE AIRMASS.
