2006: Offshore winds blew to 40 mph in the Banning Pass. The Esperanza Fire was started by an arsonist. It eventually burned 40,200 acres from Cabazon to San Jacinto. It destroyed 34 homes and killed 5 firefighters.

Note the drop in surface Dew Point levels this evening around 9pm. The winds reversed from the southeast to the Northwest helping in the dry out!

Wow, it was nice today. But we had to deal with the winds! The winds affected most of us overnight but by sunrise they calmed down in and around the southern cove communities. 83 degrees was the high here today in Thousand Palms. That’s 19 degrees below normal for this time of year.
